Be Heart smart!

 Watch your diet:

Healthy eating reduces the risk of heart disease.

  • Ensure to have a balanced diet, include foods like vegetables, rice, pasta, fruits and oily fish (Omega 3).

  • Reduce your salt intake as a lot of salt may lower your blood pressure which could eventually lead to heart disease. Avoid regular consumption of foods like crisps and salted nuts.

  • Reduce alcohol intake as this could lead to increase in blood pressure and weight gain which could eventually lead to heart disease.

REMEMBER: YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT!

Exercise:

Doing regular exercise keeps the body fit and the heart strong so that blood is pumped efficiently around the body.

Learn how to manage your stress levels:

Everyone experiences stress at one point in their lives. Stress could lead to an increase in alcohol intake, smoking and interfere with your normal eating pattern. All these could increase the risk of getting heart disease.

Have regular blood pressure and cholesterol checks:

Increase in blood pressure = decreased life expectancy. High cholesterol levels = more fat deposits in the coronary arteries that eventually increase the risk of heart disease.

Check your family history:

Knowing that heart disease runs in your family could help you manage more effectively.
